Class Field Trips for 3rd and 4th Graders

Picture
For Owensboro and Daviess County 3rd and 4th grade students we offer a day a fun and learning focused on the important scientific research and health innovations going on in our own community.
Our program focuses on the use of tobacco to make plant-based vaccines and pharmaceuticals right here in Owensboro. Students will learn about plant life cycles and photosynthesis as well as genetically modified crops at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. At the Owensboro Science and History Museum, students will explore the microscopic world of the plant cell, learn about DNA and practice some common biotech lab procedures like DNA extraction.
All students receive a certificate acknowledging them as official "Budding Biotechs" upon completion of our program. Together the day provides an integrated and stimulating look at how biotechnology is improving the world around us and in own neighborhoods!
